실리카겔 [Mercurial]

2022년 실리카겔은 싱글 [NO PAIN] 발매로 새로운 리스너들의 유입에 성공 가도를 올리며 밴드신에서의 입지가 그 어느 때보다 단단해진 해였다. 이에 제20회 2023 한국대중음악상 ‘최우수 모던록 노래’로 선정되며 2년 연속 수상의 영예를 안았다. 각종 뮤직 페스티벌, 장르의 경계를 허무는 브랜드 협업 등 활발한 행보에 힘입어 2023년 4월, EP 발매와 최대 규모의 단독 공연을 앞두고 있다. 앞서 EP 선공개 타이틀 [Mercurial]을 공개하며 새로운 활동에 포문을 연다.

[Mercurial]은 실리카겔이 ‘유스(Youth)‘를 테마로 써내려간 곡으로 그간 실리카겔의 발자취를 함께 남겨온 패션 브랜드인 ‘산산기어(SANSAN GEAR)‘와의 특별한 협업으로 완성될 수 있었다. 산산기어는 ‘불완전성이 주는 완전함과 유스(Youth)‘라는 테마로 [Mercurial]에서 영감을 받은 23 S/S 컬렉션을 구성했고, 오직 실리카겔을 위한 브랜드만의 컨셉 의상을 제작하여 선보였다. 이를 밀도있게 하나의 세계관으로 응축시킨 멜트미러(isvn) 감독이 다양한 작가들의 오브제와 특별한 연출로 뮤직비디오에 담아냈다. 장르적 도전에 한계를 두지 않는 세 브랜드가 8개월간의 프로젝트 기간동안 함께 하며 대중에게 이전에 없던 새로운 창작물과 경험을 선보이게 될 예정이다.

2022 was a big year for Silica Gel, as they attracted new listeners with the [NO PAIN] single and further cemented their standing within Korea‘s band scene. As a result, Silica Gel was selected as the [Best Modern Rock Song] at 2023 The 20th Korean Music Awards, winning the award for the second year in a row. Following up appearances in various music festivals and boundary-defying collaborations with brands, the band now prepares for the release of an EP in April of 2023 in addition to their biggest-ever solo concert. [Mercurial], the new pre-release track from their upcoming EP, provides a taste of what Silica Gel have in store for the world.

[Mercurial] is a song written by Silica Gel on the theme of ‘Youth‘ and was made possible through a special collaboration with ‘SANSAN GEAR‘, a fashion brand that has been following Silica Gel‘s footsteps. SANSAN GEAR organized the S/S 23 collection inspired by [Mercurial] with the theme of ‘perfection and youth through imperfection’, and presented the brand‘s own couture garments exclusively for silica gel. Director Meltmirror (isvn) condensed this into a dense worldview and captured it in a music video with objects from various artists and special direction. The three genre-defying brands will work together for the duration of the eight-month project, bringing new and never-before-seen creations and experiences to the public.
